School Bursars
The school Photoshoot
As school photographers we understand that the yearly school photoshoot is a tradition going back decades and the school photo is an important milestone for every pupil and their families. As technology has moved on we now have the ability to give more choice to parents, at better prices with a smoother ordering an administration process. We undertand the need to give parents a good product at good value.
the process
School Photography is a volume process, the photograhy has to be great because at the end of teh day the this is what parents are buying. But the process from turning up at the door on photo day, to getting parents their pictures, has to run as smoothly as possible with as few headaches for school bursars and admin staff. The school photoday and everything that goes with it, should be a happy time if memory creation, and not a chore or a hassle.
choice
In primary schools we always take at least 4 different portraits and try to make each one look different from the other, we need to do this in record time as we often have to get through an entire school with separate shots for siblings and family groups coming in the morning all before lunch when the school hall is needed for lunch time set up. In practice this translated to sometimes 10 seconds per child. Ten seconds to put that child at ease, and capture their personality in 4 separate images. This is an acquired skill and is completely separate form the ability to simply use a camera or "be good at photography". Not all photographers make good children's photographers. A national school photography company may send you a photographer who simply doenst have the skills required to put 250 school children at ease at get the best photo form them all in one morning.
